claude notes: a close reading of buyer language
claude notes are the working record this guidebook uses while listening to a B2B customer or decision-maker. They hold the phrase that carried weight, the hedge, the criterion that appeared when a deal stalled, and the gap where a team was guessing. The name is field shorthand inside klulkler. It is not a software product, not a score, and not a claim that the notes represent a market.
A claude note is qualitative on purpose. It does not forecast a return on investment. It does not smuggle a convenience sample in through a percentage.
Why a special record at all
Ordinary notes collapse too fast. A researcher hears a sharp line and writes “security is a concern.” The concern was narrower: the reviewer could not reuse the vendor’s sentence in front of an examiner. That narrowing is the entire value of the hour. claude notes exist to stop the collapse. They are taken during customer interviews and during market observation, then left intact until someone is ready to test a pattern.
The practice is deliberately modest. You are not coding a corpus for a significance test. You are keeping a trail that a colleague can audit. If they cannot find the speaker, the moment, and the words, the note has failed even if it sounds intelligent.
How to write one without decorating it
Capture the line before you name the theme. If you cannot write the line, you do not yet have a note; you have a mood. Mark the hedge as its own column, because hedges are often the decision. “We would switch if the operator did not have to rebuild the queue” is not a mild version of “they want to switch.” The “if” is the switching cost.
Mark silence. A decision-maker who will discuss workflow and will not discuss who signs is telling you about authority. Silence belongs in the refusal column. Do not repair it with a guess about the org chart. Take the guess, if you must, to decision-maker research and try to interview the missing role.
Keep one note to one moment. A security review and a renewal call do not share a row just because both felt tense. Tension is not a mechanism. Purchase friction gets a name only after the moment is clear.
Worked composite
A note that is not a case study and not a statistic
The following is a composite, shaped to show the columns. It is not a client, not a quotation from a named company, and not evidence about banks as a category.
Verbatim
“If I cannot explain tenant isolation to our examiner without using your slide nouns, I will not sponsor this.”
Role and moment
Director of infrastructure. Security review, before procurement has a number.
Hedge and refusal
Hedge: “if I cannot explain.” Refusal: will not discuss price until that sentence exists.
What it is allowed to mean
A proof gap in this conversation. Not a market share of examiners. Not a promised reduction in cycle time.
If two other infrastructure leads use a cousin of that sentence, you have a candidate for pattern synthesis. You still do not have a representative finding. You have a mechanism worth writing carefully, which is what positioning synthesis is for.
What claude notes are not
They are not a net promoter score, not a coded frequency you can call a majority, and not a prompt you paste into a slide titled “voice of the customer.” They are not permission to claim that buyers in a segment behave a certain way. They are not an endorsement of any tool that happens to share a similar name.
They are a restraint. The restraint is the product. A team that can show its claude notes can be challenged. A team that can show only themes cannot.

Take the notes into a harder test
A single sharp line is a beginning. Patterns ask whether the mechanism traveled. Positioning asks whether a sentence can survive contact with the original note.
